Cloves are the dried, unopened flower buds of an evergreen tree that is native to Indonesia.
Both whole and powdered cloves are dark brown in colour with a reddish tinge. They have a powerful and aromatic aroma and intense flavour that works well in many dishes.
These small littles cloves are rich in minerals and antioxidants like manganese and vitamin K.
Cloves can also cause a numbing sensation in the mouth. This is due to the eugenol found in cloves which is a natural anaesthetic and was traditionally used to numb and reduce toothache.
Instructions for Use:
Cloves are a punchy and fragrant addition to your herbs & spice cupboard. Especially useful in Indian cuisine such as curry, lentil, and rice dishes. They can be included in sweet dishes such as fruit chutneys, preserves, cakes, tea infusions and even mulled wine! Whole cloves can also be used to brew tea.
