What is Sumac?
Sumac is a spice used in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking.
It's a main ingredient of a popular Arabic seasoning Za'atar.
It has a beautiful crimson colour to can live up many dishes.
Sumac powder is made from the berry fruit of the Rhus Coriaria shrub, which grows in parts of the Mediterranean sea coast.
What is the flavour of Sumac?
Sumac has an earthy, sour and slightly floral flavour that's a bit like lemon or limes but isn't quite as acidic and bitter.
How to use Sumac?
Sumac will make a great garnish to many dishes to brighten the colour of the food as a replacement for paprika. Sprinkle it on hummus, pastes, salads and dips.
Sumac is great in spice mixes, seasonings, marinades and rubs.

Store in a cool dry place, away from direct sunlight, heat, and damp.
